![]() On the subject of FLAC and ALAC, you'll likely find that some people will tell you that one is better than the other, and others which say that is impossible and then this thread will descend in to a slanging match before being locked by the moderators.but for what it's worth they theoretically ought to be the same as each other quality wise and I've never ben able to tell any difference between them (or uncompressed AIFF for that matter) so maybe try that yourself and if you can tell a difference go with whichever sounds best, or if you can't tell a difference go with whichever is most convenient. ![]() ![]() For example, under Albums, some albums show with no album art, but when you tap the album to display the tracks, the album art shows along with the track list. I don't have a NAS and I've never used EAC, I use dbPowerAmp (download the FLAC codec as well obviously) for ripping CDs and it's simplicity itself really, you can fiddle with some of the options for ripping but really it's just a case of fire up the CD audio convertor sub-program, insert the CD, it finds it on t'net, adds all the tag info and you hit 'rip'. It is a bit of a faff, but I find that ripping with iTunes is so much easier that on balance doing that and then manually doing the artwork is still easier than using the few other applications that I've tried. 158 replies Not a huge issue, but I notice that album art display on the My Sonos part of the Sonos app (S2) is inconsistent. 1 Hi, Does anyone have an idiots guide to ripping CDs onto a NAS for use with a Sonos system I'm currently attempting to rip my CD collection using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) onto my NAS (Buffalo Linkstation Mini). Alternatively there is script available on the Sonos support page (search on "iTunes artwork" and you'll find it), that allows you to select a number of albums and copy the artwork to the track file metadata en-mass. You can do this manually by copying the album art image and then selecting the relevant album tracks and doing a multiple 'get-info' and pasting the artwork into the appropriate box. I heard 'Album Art Downloader' and 'Media Art' works, just have to try some out and see. January 2016 Answer It is possible to add artwork after the fact, you just need to find a program that works with FLAC files. Equally important is storing the ripped files in a separate hard disc because hard discs crash, and you don't want to do the tedious ripping task more than once. If I remember right, AIFF is not necessary. Slow but steady using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) to try and make it 'perfect' one and done. Since I use iTunes+Mac, I used Apple Lossless but any lossless codec that Sonos can handle is fine for replicating CD quality. Service pid Machine Connected at Encryption Signing 1 Howdy, I have started the ball rolling on ripping cd's to flac. If you can’t personally use the information please feel free to ignore $ sudo smbstatus The smbstatus command should work on any Linux based server, it may need sudo/root to run. Looking at my SMB (Linux Samba) server status I’m seeing this even though SMBv1 is enabled there: SMB3_02.
